I had this image in my mind for a long time, and as I'm not very good at painting architecture, I decided to do some photomanipulation and paint some stuff over to create a sort of matte painting. I've been working on this piece back and forth for more than a year and I could probably arrange some areas better but I'll leave it as it is for the moment and share it with you guys. It is a reference to Lovecraft's timeless dream city. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

The atmosphere of this work is really wonderful, so magical.^^ I think it's great that you chose two contrasting colours: a warm reddish-brownish colour for the background and a cool blue for the spacecrafts. It really makes them stand out.
But what fascinates me most about this work is the city, which is so neat and detailed. And also the buildings further back are still clearly defined and not blurry. On one hand I agree with *rhymesyndicate: normally objects further back are not so detailed, but more blurry and with less contrast. But on the other hand this "high definition" of the city in the back adds wonderfully to that overall surrrealistic atmosphere.

This is something a little different from your normal for you - but very atmospheric and imaginative as always! The composition is great - with the flight of the ships drawing the eye around the piece. I particularly like the craft that's flying off into the unknown. I also like how you blended the cloud over the bedrock of the city - but may I humbly suggest that it would give more of a sense of depth to the picture if the values of the city itself were reduced. Objects that are further away have reduced contrast - so likewise you might give more depth to the ridge of rocks in the distance by softening their values even more (and absorbing more of the red ambient lighting). I hope that's useful and maybe something you could consider for your next futuristic landscape!

Hi Rhyme, thanks for your very valuable comment. You're so damned right about the values. I forgot the primary rules of composition, so stucked I was into trying to blend all those different sources together. However, I had in mind re-working this project some day and setting the scene on a frozen planet, so I'll keep in mind your precious advice :handshake:

 I know the feeling! I've had plenty of pictures that I just want to get finished - only to see what I forget to do afterwards! Sometimes I think it's just best to move on to the next one... after all - we're all learning!
